What was the secret? They wanted to know, in a thousand different ways they wanted to know THE SECRET. And not one of them was prepared, truly prepared to believe that it had not so much to do with chemicals and zippy mental tricks as with that most unprofound and sometimes heart rending process of removing, molecule by molecule, the very tough rubber that comprised the bottom of his running shoes. - John L. More About Me

I realized that my About Me section was really lame and now that I'm a Cleveland Marathon blogger I really should write a better bio so you can all get to know me:

This isn't the story of how running changed my life because, frankly, I have always been a runner.  Specifically, I started running in seventh grade and I ran Cross Country and Track all throughout middle school and high school (sorry, no picture).  I was pretty decent back in high school.  I made it to regionals a couple of times and was twice runner up in our conference in XC.

In college I moved on to Ultimate Frisbee and only ran sporadically, usually just a few road 5ks over the summer.

Ultimate is also a pretty great sport!
In my senior year I was diagnosed with a sports hernia, which I am now convinced is the most frustrating injury you can ever get.  For 18 months I was able to run very little.  After having it surgically repaired in the beginning of 2012 (incredibly painful) I finally got back to the sport I love.

For the past year I have been working on getting myself back into shape.  Somewhere along the way I also decided to do a little barefooting (full disclosure: I have not read Born To Run but I've been meaning to for a long time).  It started when I got a pair of vibram five fingers.  I used them for the occasional run but now I've moved on to doing some actual barefoot running.  One of my goals for 2013 is to run a race barefoot.

And that brings me to one of my other goals for 2013: running a marathon!  It's something I've always wanted to do and I think now the time is right.  I'm healthy, I'm getting back in shape and I have the time and will to go through the training and actually complete 26.2 miles (hopefully).

Oh, and if you couldn't figure it out from the picture, the name of this blog comes from Ron Swanson from NBC's Parks and Recreation, my favorite TV show of all time.

  1. Glad to see you are running the full! I think you can do very well in the full even though it will be your first one.
