What was the secret? They wanted to know, in a thousand different ways they wanted to know THE SECRET. And not one of them was prepared, truly prepared to believe that it had not so much to do with chemicals and zippy mental tricks as with that most unprofound and sometimes heart rending process of removing, molecule by molecule, the very tough rubber that comprised the bottom of his running shoes. - John L. Cleveland Marathon Training - Week 4: More Snow

Well, the weather in Cleveland was very fickle last week.  Early in the week it was really warm.  I even did my first long run on Tuesday and felt good.  The fact that there was constant lightning made it even better.  Later in the week things turned cold and we got a lot of snow.  Saturday's hill workout was especially tough because the big hill I use was slick and the alternate side of the hill where I do the short hill repeats was not plowed at all so those were really difficult since I was running through about 8 inches of snow.  I did at least feel pretty badass by the end of it.  I totally wanted to scream DRAGOOO!!!! after climbing the hill the final time :)

Here are this weeks runs:

Monday: 4.8 miles (8:23 pace)

Tuesday: 9.01 miles (7:57 pace)

Wednesday: Rest Day

Thursday: 6.81 miles (8:21 pace)

Friday: 6.81 miles (10:29 pace)

Saturday: Hill workout - 4x 1 mile hill circuit.  1.5 mile warmup and cool down for 7 miles total.

Sunday: Rest Day

Total mileage: 31.5 miles

Less than two weeks until my first race of 2013: The Chili Bowl Classic 5k

Who else braved the snow last week?  Anyone else doing Chili Bowl?

  1. Love that you show the varying paces in your runs.
We'll be at Chili Bowl, hopefully you don't beat Ryan too bad ;)

    1. Haha, it should be a good race. It sounds like you and Ryan have been rocking those 800s!

    2. I plan to be at the Chili Bowl. The last 5k I ran was the Chili Bowl last year, so I'm not really sure that I'm in shape for such a short and fast race but we'll see how it goes. I hope your race goes great.
